Q. 10. How did God create man?
A. God created man male and female, after his own image, in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness, with dominion over the creatures.
When God created humanity there were two sexes, male and female. Both the man and woman bore his image. Human beings were created to be like God: there is something Godlike about all of humanity, a resemblance that cannot be taken away.
He made Adam and Eve differently. Adam was made out of the dust of the earth and Eve was created out of Adam, but both men and women equally bear God’s image.
We were created in …
Knowledge When Adam and Eve were first made they had a pure knowledge and wisdom. They were creatures, so weren’t all wise and all knowing like God is and yet they knew what was necessary for life and godliness in the garden.
Righteousness God made human beings upright, able and willing to obey his law. Adam and Eve were able to fulfil the greatest commandment to love God with all their heart, mind, soul and strength and to love their neighbour as themselves.
Holiness When God created humanity, Adam and Eve were free from sin, and uncleanness. There was no disorder, no problems. They were set apart and desired to love God and enjoy Him. Ezekiel 28:15 says “You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created …”
Interestingly when the Apostle Paul speaks to the Ephesians and the Colossians, those who’ve experienced new creation and what it means to be in Christ, he tells them,
“put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Colossians 3:10
He tells them to ‘put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.’ Ephesians 4:24
The Apostle is telling the believers we are remade into what we were meant to be.
We were created to ….
Have Dominion over the creatures Humanity was the pinnacle of God’s creation, created to be God’s rulers in God’s world, to exercise God’s authority. To see the garden extend over all the earth. Psalm 8 tells us that “all things were put under his feet.”
